Hi Tracy, thank you! I'm glad you like my work. I always wanted to see a great spotted woodpecker in my garden, since I was really young. It never happened, until recently, when I noticed one feeding on a suet ball in the snow, during the really cold weather in January. Thankfully he has continued to visit, though his appearances are getting more sporadic.
ps - you are very brave using watercolour. Some really nice work, well done - far too difficult for me, I gave up on it years ago!
Apparently they are very rare visitors here in Orkney - it would certainly make my day to see one in the garden. I did notice your Garden Bird Count list was considerably longer than mine too!

Yes, I understand that they are largely absent from the far north. Wow, I've never been to Orkney, but would love to visit in the spring for the breeding birds. Do you do a lot of birdwatching as well as painting?
Hope you make it up here some time. We were on the beach today, watching the fulmars taking up residence on the cliffs...and trying not to get too close!
